Erindale Shops is getting an upgrade!
The ACT Government has committed $2.6 million to upgrade the Government-owned public spaces around Erindale Shops. Your ideas – all interesting and sometimes inspired – will shape how that investment delivers the biggest benefit for local families, businesses and the wider Tuggeranong community.
Erindale Shops (also known as the Erindale Group Centre) is a diverse and thriving commercial precinct in the heart of our community. As your local and vocal representative in the ACT Legislative Assembly, my job is to make sure that the ACT Government hears and considers your views about issues that affect Tuggeranong. That's why I ran a survey seeking our community's thoughts.
Between December and February 2026, more than 420 neighbours completed my survey and told me what they think matters most. People wrote to me online, stopped in at my mobile Tuggeranong Offices, chatted at the shops and returned the survey that my team and I delivered to every home in Wanniassa, Monash, Gowrie, Fadden and Oxley. Here are the results.
There was one clear message: Erindale’s public spaces are ready for revitalisation. Our community wants a centre that is more connected, greener, safer, more accessible and more welcoming.
The community’s feedback strongly focused on four themes:
- Play space & recreation – strong support (79%) for a shaded, family friendly play space, particularly in Grattan Court.
- Public amenities & landscaping – a greener, cooler, more accessible precinct with more seating, better lighting, art, shade and safer pathways.
- Parking & access – retain existing free parking, improve traffic flow, and make walking and rolling around the centre easier.
- Community activation – strong enthusiasm for a more vibrant hub that can host events, performances and markets.
Another very strong theme was the congestion and parking issues around Gartside Street – particularly within the concrete carpark along the restaurant strip (affectionately known in my family as Fast Food Wonderland). I have confirmed that this carpark is privately owned and collectively managed by up to 19 individual lessees or entities. I am working to identify and contact these owners so I can advocate for small but sensible improvements, such as clearer markings and a one-way traffic flow.
On Wednesday 25 February, I presented your thoughts and tabled the results in the ACT Legislative Assembly. You can watch my speech here.
Since then, I have provided all individual survey responses (de-identified) and the summary report to the Minister for City and Government Services and the project team. I want to ensure the final designs genuinely reflect what our community has asked for, and I will continue advocating for these priorities as planning progresses. I have requested to meet with the design team.
Below you will find the letter and feedback summary that I sent to the Minister outlining the community’s views and the recommendations that emerged.
Thank you to those who took the time to contribute. I will update this page as the project moves into the design and delivery stages.
